Glossary
The casino word-book
Plain-language definitions of the terms you'll see on bonus pages, T&Cs and reviews — written so a first-timer can follow along.
Show
A
- Anti-Money LaunderingAML
- The regulatory framework that obliges casinos to monitor unusual deposits, source-of-funds checks, and suspicious patterns. AML protects both the operator and the legitimate player.

B
- Bonus Abuse
- Behaviour that breaks bonus T&Cs — multi-accounting, exceeding the max bet, or playing excluded games. Operators are entitled to void winnings and close accounts; play within the rules.
C
- Crypto Casino
- An operator that accepts cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals — typically BTC, ETH, USDT or LTC. Crypto rails usually mean lower fees and instant withdrawals once approved, but no chargeback protection.

E
- E-Wallet
- Digital payment accounts such as Skrill, Neteller or PayPal. E-wallet payouts tend to be the fastest fiat option but may be excluded from some welcome bonuses — check the T&Cs.
F
- Free SpinsFS
- Spins awarded on a specific slot at a fixed stake. Always check whether winnings are paid as cash or as bonus funds with their own wagering requirement.
G
- Game Weighting
- The percentage each game type contributes to clearing a bonus. Slots usually count 100%, while blackjack and roulette often count 10% or less. A 'slots bonus' is a bad fit for table-game players.
- Gambling License
- Permission from a regulator (MGA, UKGC, Spelinspektionen, Curaçao eGaming, etc.) to offer real-money games. The license dictates dispute resolution, fund segregation and audit standards. No visible license in the footer = walk away.

H
- House Edge
- The mathematical advantage the casino holds over the player. It is the inverse of RTP: a 96% RTP slot has a 4% house edge. The lower the house edge, the better the odds over time.

J
- Jackpot
- A large prize pool. Fixed jackpots have a set top prize; progressive jackpots grow with every wager across a network until a player wins them.
K
- Know Your CustomerKYC
- The verification process required by licensed operators. You'll usually upload ID, proof of address and a payment-method screenshot. Complete KYC at signup — not after you've requested a withdrawal — to avoid delays.
L
- Live Dealer
- Real human dealers streaming blackjack, roulette, baccarat and game-show titles in HD. Providers like Evolution and Pragmatic Play Live dominate the category.
M
- Max Bet Rule
- A cap on the stake size allowed while playing through a bonus, typically €5. Breaching it can void winnings — read the bonus T&Cs carefully before increasing your bet.
- Minimum Deposit
- The smallest amount you can fund your account with. Most modern operators allow €10; some VIP-tier or crypto-native sites set higher minimums.

N
- No-Deposit Bonus
- A small bonus credited just for registering — no deposit required. Usually carries higher wagering and lower max-cashout limits than a deposit bonus, but it's a risk-free way to test an operator.
P
- Provably Fair
- A cryptographic system — common at crypto casinos — that lets you verify each round was not tampered with after the fact, by combining a server seed with your client seed.
- Payout Speed
- How long a withdrawal takes from request to arrival. Crypto payouts are typically instant after approval; e-wallets within a few hours; cards and bank transfers 1–3 business days.
R
- Return to PlayerRTP
- The long-term theoretical percentage of wagered money a game pays back to players. An RTP of 96% means that, across millions of spins, the game returns €96 for every €100 staked. Higher RTP is better — but it only describes averages, not single sessions.
- Random Number GeneratorRNG
- The certified algorithm that decides every outcome in a non-live game. Reputable operators publish RNG audits from independent labs such as eCOGRA, iTech Labs or GLI.
- Responsible GamblingRG
- Tools and habits that keep play recreational: deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders, reality checks and self-exclusion. Set them before your first spin, not after a bad session.
- Reverse Withdrawal
- A predatory feature that lets you cancel a pending withdrawal and put the money back into your balance. Top-tier operators disable this by default. Avoid casinos that don't.
Related:Self-Exclusion
S
- Self-Exclusion
- A tool that lets you block your own access to a casino, or to all licensed casinos in a market (Spelpaus in Sweden, GAMSTOP in the UK), for a chosen period. Available on every operator we list.
V
- Volatility (Variance)
- How a slot pays out over time. Low-volatility games pay small, frequent wins; high-volatility games pay rare, larger wins. Volatility doesn't change RTP — only the shape of the experience.
- VIP / Loyalty Program
- Tiered rewards for regular players: cashback, faster withdrawals, dedicated hosts, and tailored bonuses. Read the small print — a flashy VIP program with unreachable tiers is just marketing.

W
- Wagering RequirementRollover
- How many times you must stake a bonus before you can withdraw winnings from it. A €100 bonus at 35× requires €3,500 in total wagers. Anything above 40× is considered high; under 25× is genuinely player-friendly.
